SYSTEM COUNCIL NO. 2
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
On the
date of February 11, 2005, I met with the officers and Assistant General
Chairman Tom Stefaniak in St. Louis, Missouri, for the Union Pacific and St.
Louis Terminal Company.
On the
date of February 17, 2005, I met with the National Carrier’s Conference
Committee concerning our current wage negotiations. A prior meeting
was held in January 2005 to which I was on vacation. However, a letter
from Brother Hill’s office, I have been told, will be soon forthcoming.
On the
date of February 23, 2005, Vice General Chairman/Secretary-Treasurer Pat
Perry and I went over the books and claims were reviewed that had been
conferenced. Assistant General Chairman Jim Wisniski has encountered
identity theft and again, I must alert all brothers and sisters to be aware
and caution them when exposing their vital information to others such as
social security numbers of copying of driver’s licenses. Also, his
wife, Marji, tripped in front of a hotel while on a business trip and broke
her foot.
We
encountered an employee from the C&NW on UP territory assisting work in the
North Platte Yards when an agreement was made and two (2) of our
Electricians were sent up to the Norfolk & Western vicinity on account of
shortage of manpower. That problem was quickly resolved and I have
been assured that there will not be any further re-occurrences of this type
of situation. Should anyone be aware of crossing of these Seniority
Districts, please advise if not accompanied by a letter of understanding.
We are
still encountering some problems with employees going under the Employee’s
Assistance Program, waiving their hearing, and being considered as a
dismissed employee, thus cutting off their insurance benefits.
Assistant General Chairman Don Tortorice met with the committee at Salt Lake
City, Utah, and this matter should be resolved. However, should any
Local Chairman or members encounter this problem, they should contact
Assistant General Chairman Don Tortorice immediately. His cell phone
is 310-227-9398.
Pipefitter Daniel Weinert, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, who was killed in a fuel
tank explosion in the shops there, was a son of former Maintenance of Way
Electrician Weinert who worked in the Engineering Department in the
Headquarters Building. On behalf of this System Council, Vice General
Chairman Pat Perry attended the funeral.
