JANUARY 2005 MONTHLY REPORT
ALL LOCAL UNIONS
SYSTEM COUNCIL NO. 2
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
On
Wednesday, January 4, 2005, I met with the Carrier and reached an
Implementing Agreement concerning the transfer of work from Roseville,
California, back to Stockton, California. On Thursday, January 5,
2005, I had planned to meet with the officers of Local Union 1832, Kansas
City, Missouri, and with Assistant General Chairman Tom Stefaniak on January
6, 2005, at St. Louis, Missouri. However, due to weather conditions, I
was snowed in at Omaha, Nebraska, and was unable to get to Kansas City due
to the ice storm and inclement weather. On January 22 through 29,
2005, I was on vacation.
On the
date of January 3, 2005, meeting was held with Director of Communications
Neal Spencer, Communication Gang Worker Bailey and Vice General
Chairman Pat Perry. Following this meeting, Assistant General Chairman
Bob Ramirez and Vice General Chairman Pat Perry met with myself on the
Implementing Agreement on January 4, 2005.
On the
date of January 10, 2005, Vice General Chairman Pat Perry met with
Supervisor Warren Lucas concerning an investigation with one of our
Electricians which was cancelled.
Vice
General Chairman Pat Perry and Assistant General Chairman Jim Wisniski,
went to Houston, Texas, to assist the Local Chairman, Local Union 1814, with
hearings on January 17 and 19, 2005. Those investigations were all
cancelled. They met with the officers on January 17, 2005, and on
January 18, 2005, visited the Shops.
Assistant
General Chairmen Bob Ramirez and Don Tortorice visited Roseville,
California, and Stockton, California, and met with the members in Stockton,
California, explaining the Implementing Agreement concerning transfer of
work from Roseville, California, to Stockton, California.
As of
this writing, I am still in the process of finalizing the complete Agreement
between Progress Rail and its Employees represented by System Council No. 2
of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers effective January 1,
2005. The Agreements are complete; however, I am lacking the agreed
upon side letters and when the complete Agreement has been signed by both
parties, the Agreement with all side letters will be released by the
respective parties.
On the
date of January 27, 2005, Vice General Chairman Pat Perry came to North
Platte, Nebraska, to handle the financial report and our financial affairs.
An
initial meeting was held on the National Wage, Health and Welfare Movement
on January 25, 2005, which the undersigned was not in attendance account of
being on vacation. However, a report will be forthcoming from
President Hill’s office and I have been advised that the only thing that
took place was a review of the Section Six Notices served by the parties.
The next meeting is scheduled for February 17, 2005, at Miami, Florida.
I again
want to encourage you to spread the word of our new website at
ibewsc2.org for union members. The site is filled with much
useful information and will be updated regularly to include new important
information.
I am
enclosing an article which appeared in the Omaha World Herald concerning
Union Pacific turning away business and my letter to my two Nebraska
Senators and my Congressional representative concerning the effects of
deregulation. I would urge you to write your senators and congressmen
in a similar manner and suggest they do something to re-regulate the
railroads so the rail industry has to serve all of the public at a fair
price.
I am also
enclosing the following information which can be posted:
